We are
the State Headquarters of The American Legion. Chartered by
Congress in 1919, The American Legion was founded as a
patriotic, mutual-help, war-time veterans organization. We are
a community-service organization which now numbers over 20,000
members in North Dakota, in over 220 local Posts. These Posts
are organized into Regions and Districts. Each Region and
District has officers who provide leadership in their
respective areas. In addition to these officers, we elect or
appoint a number of state-level officers and committee
chairmen each year to conduct the programs of The American
Legion.
The State Headquarters is located at
405 W. Main Ave., Suite 4A, in Fargo. In addition to thousands of
volunteers serving in leadership and program roles in local
communities, the State Headquarters has a regular staff of
3-1/2 employees.
Each year we conduct numerous
programs of interest and benefit to veterans, their families,
and communities. These programs include Boys State, American
Legion Baseball, High School Oratorical Contests, Bowling
Tournaments and Blood Donor Donations...just to name a few.
Various scholarships are offered to youth through one of more
of our programs. This is only a sampling of the many excellent
programs of The American Legion. More information on each
program will be available in our Programs area (as it is
developed) or through the National Headquarters site.
We hope you will visit us often.
